October, 2012
The 12th
auction by Psatharis Auction House, of
works and objects of art of Dr.
Themistoklis Dervis, the former Mayor of
Nicosia, which was held recently, on
17/10/2012, at the HILTON HOTEL -
NICOSIA, was very successful,
Out of the
56 objects (furniture, carpets,
paintings, lights and other small items)
38 were sold, ie. 67%. The writing
bureau, catalogue number 38, received
the most bids (21) and quadrupled its
price, from 700 to realise 3879. The
barometer, thermometer and hydrometer,
number 4, from 80 realised 587 after
18 bids, a watch and two candlesticks,
number 5 in the catalogue, from the
starting price of 100 realised 517
after 16 bids. The two paintings in the
catalogue, by Flemish artist Jean
Francoise (1731 - 1787) and of Josef
Wilhem Suhs (1864 - 1938), the German
artist, also found a buyer, selling at
5877 and 3526 respectively. The
public also showed an interest in the
five hand-made Persian carpets, with the
focus centred on the Tabris carpet,
which, from the starting price of 850,
realised 2115 after 11 bids. The three
mirrors were also successful, with the
Large Mirror, 180 x 114 cm from its
starting price of 1800 realising 3879
after 9 bids. Out of the four crystal
chandeliers, three were sold, with
particular interest in the chandelier
no. 29, which, from its starting price
of 1500, realised 2586 after 7 bids.
The public,
however, did not show any interest in
the jewellery, of which, despite the low
starting price, only two rings were
sold, numbers 61 and 69 in the
catalogue.
